Data sources and licences
Everything on this site comes from one publisher: the U.S. Department of Labor's Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA), which releases the contents of Form 5500 filings as bulk research files. Works of the United States government are in the public domain (17 U.S.C. 105). No footer notice is required; the source is cited on every page.
| File | What this site takes from it |
|---|---|
| Form 5500 (main form), 2009 to 2025 | Plan and sponsor name, EIN and plan number, sponsor city and state, business code, plan entity type, plan characteristics codes, participant counts, first and final return flags, plan year dates and the date received. Administrator, signer, preparer, care-of and telephone fields are never read. |
| Schedule H (financial information) | Net assets at the start and end of the year, assets by category, contributions, income, benefits paid, administrative expenses by type, transfers, the accountant's opinion and firm, and the Part IV answers on late participant contributions, fidelity bond and blackout periods. |
| Schedule C, Part I line 2 and its service codes | Service provider organisations paid $5,000 or more, their service codes, and direct and indirect compensation. Rows for individuals are dropped. |
| Form 5500-SF (short form) | Counts, participants and net assets of small pension plans by state and sector. Small plans have no pages. |
| Form 5500 instructions | The official labels for plan characteristics codes, Schedule C service codes and principal business activity codes. |
Coverage
The "latest" research file for each form year holds the most recent filing for each plan. For plan year 2024 it contains 225,591 filings of all kinds, of which 130,726 are pension plans filed directly by the plan (welfare plans and direct filing entities such as master trusts are excluded). EBSA refreshes every year's file monthly; this build includes filings received through 24 Aug 2026.
Update schedule
The site rebuilds daily. The two most recent form years are read from EBSA on every build; earlier years change rarely and are re-read when the files are next fully refreshed.
The original filings
Any filing, with its attachments and the accountant's report, can be retrieved by EIN or plan name from the Department of Labor's EFAST2 filing search. That record is authoritative.
